Volunteer

York's Volunteer Program encourages adults to serve on the York's audience services staff, or perform administrative tasks involving the artistic, development, and marketing departments. Volunteering at the York is a richly rewarding experience, allowing motivated individuals to learn about musical theatre while helping the York fulfill its mission of presenting high quality productions of new works in the musical theatre and deserving works from the past.

Interns

The York Theatre Company is seeking high school, university, and newly graduated students to engage in a hands-on educational experience. Students will take on responsibilities in all facets of a professional theatre. The York Theatre, which is dedicated its mission to the production of new musicals, strives to give new theatre professionals the same first stepping stone.

The commitment is a minimum of one semester. We ask that each intern put in a minimum of 20 hours a week. (Specific days/times are flexible with supervisor.) The term start and finish dates are slightly flexible. Contact with questions/concerns.

-Fall/Winter= September-December
-Winter/Spring= January-early May
-Summer= May-August

Academic credit is available.

Every intern will be responsible for general office duties and errands, but we also want this to be an opportunity for each student to choose a focus to develop their skills. You can pick from the following:

-Management: Intern will assist general manager and company manager in processing contracts, payroll, and personnel files. Candidates should possess a strong interest in general arts administration, be organized, and self-motivated, as well as proficient with Microsoft office, especially Excel. QuickBooks knowledge is a plus.

-Artistic/literary: Interns will help with tracking scripts, writing script evaluations on selected scripts, assisting with Developmental Reading Series, and help with dramaturgical research. Candidates should have excellent writing and communication skills, as well as a background in musical theatre history.

-Marketing: Intern will work with the Marketing Manager in PR, communications, and promotions for York programming. Responsibilities will include: distributing and organizing marketing materials, working with mailings, program development, local business and community outreach, record keeping, and assisting with special events.

-Development: Intern will maintain donor database and files, help with follow-up to donors, research funding sources, assist with mailings and special events, and participate in grant research. Intern should be detail-oriented and good with technology.

-Audience Services: Intern will assist box office personnel in ticketing and phone orders, lobby maintenance, and ticket distribution to ticket agents.  Candidates should possess a familiarity with technology and phone systems, and a strong background in customer service.

-General administration: These interns are around to assist the entire staff and will be responsible for general administrative tasks such as filing, faxing, etc. Candidate should want to learn a lot about all different fields. Also will help answer telephones and run office errands.

Application submissions should include a one page cover letter explaining what you hope to gain out of an internship with the York Theatre Company and a one page resume giving an overview of your experience.

Please include in your cover letter which term you are available and focus you would like to pursue. If you are unsure or are interested in more than one focus, please include that in your cover letter.

Application submissions are due:
-Fall/Winter= August 4
-Winter/Spring= December 1
-Summer= April 1

Submit materials by deadline to Stefanie Wagner at swagner@yorktheatre.org. Feel free to contact with any questions. Email only, no phone calls please.
