Frequently Asked Questions about submitting to
York's Developmental Reading Series
The York Theatre Company is not currently accepting scripts for consideration for its
Developmental Reading Series.
Please see the answers to frequently asked questions below:
Who can submit?
Both established and emerging writers. The York Theatre Company is one of the only theatres in the country that accepts unsolicited scripts.
When should I submit?
Only when the submission process is open. The process is currently on hiatus for the summer; please check back in September to see if it has reopened.
What materials should I submit?
Please send a Sample Submission. The Sample Submission should include:
· A cover letter introducing yourself and the piece, complete with name, address, phone number and email address.
· A one page synopsis.
· 15 pages of the book.
· A recording of 3-5 songs that correspond with the portion of the book submitted.
Please note, you will be contacted to request a Full Submission if necessary. Please do not send complete script, score and CD unless requested by the Literary Department.
How long does the evaluation process take?
Sample Submissions are processed regularly; you can expect to hear from our Literary Department within six months if a Full Submission is necessary. It generally takes at least 6 to 12 months to get a Full Submission through our entire evaluation process. If you do not hear from us, please be patient...we have quite a few scripts to read!
Will my materials be returned?
While each submission will get a reply, we are unable to return your materials.
Do you accept plays?
York's mission concerns musicals only; we do not accept submissions of plays.
Where should I send my materials?
